The Piano Lessons I Teach in Beacon, NY

In-Home Piano Lessons

Take professional in-person piano lessons, all without leaving home. Whether you need in-home lessons because you don’t have time to travel to a teacher, your kids learn better in a home environment, or some other reason, I’m happy to drive your home and teacher piano lessons there. The lesson structure and quality are highly professional, and we will work on the same musical elements that you would study in a studio. Save time and hassle, and let’s make you or your child a better pianist.

Online Piano Lessons

I offer virtual piano lessons in real time on Zoom, Skype, and Facetime. I’ve found virtual lessons can be very effective. As long as you have a high speed internet connection and wifi, we can accomplish just as much as an in-person lesson. We can also have a trial call or lesson before you enroll - we can discuss your background, try some things at the piano, or work out any technical issues.

What You Will Learn in Beacon Piano Lessons?

How To Play in a Healthy and Musical Way

Playing the piano won’t do you any good if you experience pain, and believe it or not, many pianists experience tension, tendonitis, and even carpal tunnel after they’ve been playing for a few years. We’ll correct your posture, wrist position, arm weight, and more right at the beginning so you can enjoy a lifetime of healthy playing. Furthermore, correct technique will allow you to play with more speed down the road, and you will produce a more beautiful tone as well.

How To Read Notes and Sight Read

I’m committed to bringing your reading skills up to par as soon as possible - after all, it’s one of the cornerstones of good piano playing. I want you to be able to sight read music effectively, learn music quickly, work out your own fingering choices, and be able to teach yourself piano music without having to write note names in the score. Strong readers are less common than you might think, and it’s not easy to read music fluently on your own. That’s why I prioritize teaching concrete and effective strategies and techniques to lead you through the process.

How to Play By Ear and Improvise at the Piano

I have a substantial background in jazz piano and saxophone. As a result, I believe in the value of ear training. I will teach you how to hear and identify intervals, how to pick out a tune, and how to add an accompaniment. After that (and combined with music theory), you will be well on your way to being able to improvise music at the piano.

Music Theory

I’ve studied music theory and composition, and I love to pass that knowledge on to my students. Music comes alive when you understand what’s happening “behind the scenes.” You will be able to learn music faster, appreciate it more, and write your own music as a result of understanding how music works. You will also be able to focus on rock, classical, jazz, and more with your music theory background -- after all, theory is the foundation of music.

Piano Lessons in Dutchess & Putnam Counties for Various Ages & Abilities

I enjoy working with young children, high schoolers, adults, and everything in between, so whether you would like to enroll yourself or a child, please get in touch. I’m happy to start a beginner from scratch or coach students with more experience - each age and skill level has a unique set of needs, and I’m happy to work with students from different backgrounds and skill levels.

Piano Lesson Length and Pricing

You can choose from 30, 60, or 90 minute lessons ($85, $140, or $210 respectively) - duration depends on your goals and skill level. Advanced students won’t accomplish as much in a 30 minute lesson because their repertoire takes longer to work through, and we have more advanced concepts to discuss. But beginners and kids can accomplish a tremendous amount in 30 minutes.

You’re also welcome to schedule a trial lesson if you’d like to consider working together. Just get in touch for piano lessons in Beacon or piano lessons in Westchester County, and we can find a mutually agreeable time. Trial lessons are billed at the normal rates.
