Spackenkill Piano Lessons with Local Teacher Dave Long
If you’re interested in piano lessons for yourself of your child, please get in touch. I’m happy to speak with new students and parents about lessons.
I have a background teaching piano lessons to both adults and children. I teach piano in various styles, including pop music, classical, and jazz.
I’ve been playing and teaching the piano for many years. In addition to studying music and piano in high school and college, I have taken many years of private piano lessons with some great teachers. Most recently, I’ve been studying classical piano with world-renowned teacher Seymour Bernstein.

What Will I Learn in Piano Lessons?
Piano lessons can cover a wide range of areas including the basics and more advanced topics. I try to give all of my students a foundation in the basics of reading music, technique, and music theory. Beyond that, I aim to structure our lessons to help students meet their goals. Some students wish to learn jazz and improvisation, while other students are interested in classical piano music. I’m happy to help students reach their own personal goals.
How Can I Get Started with Piano Lessons?
I’m happy to meet with students for a trial lesson without any commitment to continue with lessons. Just reach out and we can schedule a time to meet.
Will I Need a Piano or Keyboard for Lessons?
One thing you will need before we can get started with lessons is an instrument to practice on. Learning to play the piano requires students to work through various materials at the piano on their own in between lessons. If you don’t have a piano at home, you can purchase or rent one. If you need help deciding what to get, take a look at my article about choosing a piano.
Should I Help my Child Practice?
When it comes to young children, it’s often helpful for parents to sit at the piano and practice with their kids, or at least to encourage them to go to the piano and play. Don’t worry too much if you don’t have a background in music. If you’re interested in working with your child on piano and music, I can help you learn how to do it. As they get older, they will be able to self regulate more and be more independent with their learning and piano practice.
